PAYE modernisation:

PAYE modernisation is the most significant change to happen to Irish Payroll in recent history.  Any employer with one or more employees will need to fully comply with new PAYE rules being introduced in 2019.  All information will now be submitted to Revenue in real-time.  All paper forms have been abolished -  P30, P35, P45, P46 and P60.  From January 2019, Revenue will need to be notified every time an employee or director is paid.

ERR:

Enhanced Reporting Requirements (ERR) was introduced in 2024:

As an employer, you can no longer pay employees or directors “remote working, travel, subsistence or staff vouchers” without running it through the payroll.

These payments still remain tax-free (as long as they meet the criteria) however they will be reported to Revenue in the weekly / monthly payroll

Auto-Enrolment:

Auto-enrolment is a new retirement savings system for employees that will be introduced in January 2025.  This will be ran through the Irish payroll system in real-time with Revenue.
